Crane Rescue Basket
How will you rescue an injured person on your construction sites? We all know it happens without warning. Someone goes down with heat exhaustion. Stroke. I watched a guy shoot himself in the femoral artery with a nail gun above the hoist. Are you ready to get them out? If they are below grade, how are you hoisting them up? Our Rescue platforms make it easy to get them out while EMS is responding so they can be transported safely and quickly. Time is of the essence and sometimes the difference between life and death. We should all be ready with a Crane Basket.
Our Rescue Basket Design
Rescue Baskets cane be quite fancy or simply practical. Our Dedicated Evacuation platform here is practical. It’s a rectangle to get two people out. That’s the beginning and the end of it. Slide a patient in on a rescue board and have a second person get in with them for treatments, or to signal the crane. And off you go.
Our Crane Basket is set up to meet ASME Regulations in design. People are enclosed. You won’t find hand rails or grab rails because it’s enclosed to well above the 42” top rail. ASME states the gate should open in to prevent accidental opening. We did a garage door style gate that cannot accidentally open. But access is fast and intuitive. And we have two anchorage tie points for personnel. The design is narrow so it’s easy to store on the job. On top of a convex is a great way to have the basket put away but always at the ready. These typically come in white with the Red Cross on it. If you wanted another color, we can do it, we’d just need to plan ahead for that. There is no test weight available for this unit. If you do want a test weight and a Crane Man Basket Functionality, I would suggest our Model 1076. It has a drop down gate for a gurney or stretcher which I find to be essential for this unit.. But it can also function like a beautifully equipped Crane Man Basket.
The Four way rigging is not included on these. We can source it locally if you let me know what codes you’ll be following and if your company has any particular codes that prevent European attachments or if they require anything specific in their design. If not, I would order a four way system that attaches for the long haul. The four way anchorages are well above the base which will give it great stability during transport of the patient.
Dedicated Evacuation Platform
In Canada they do something the US needs to learn from. They have rescue platforms on construction sites. It’s a dedicated piece of equipment meant to be ready at a moment notice. OSHA would do well to require this. The reality is that our basket is $3600 by the time we ship it will hit $5600. The cost on a 30 year basis is $15 per month. I know there is always a question about how many $15 per month bills can one support, but you are guaranteed to have 4-5 rescue needs in 30 years. Humans go down in the best of scenarios. The hazards and challenging work in construction exacerbates that. So for $15 a month… simply be ready with your safety equipment.
Conclusion
There is no reason to not be ready to pull someone out. The idea of not moving someone is a very limited scenario related to fractures that could damage people. The do no harm approach. Let the pros handle those people. But when we watch someone go down because of a health issue, there is virtually no reason to not get that person ready for emergent care. Not lackadaisical care. 1 person calling. One person clearing space. One person attending and the 4th person going with the crane to get the basket. Make it a habit. If you get there and you find it’s not the right call, zero harm has been done. If you get there and it’s critical, you’ll be grateful on all points for the Crane Rescue Basket and a little foresight. Watch the video below and see how a man was preparing to but to death, but the crane operator was able to come in with this exact bin from our UK branch.
