Crane Loading Platform Storm Safety Advantages
If you are building a high-rise project, you become well aware of the weather. Looking a week ahead, you keep your eye out for anything unusual. Often paying for services that have better data at each elevation since the wind speeds can change so dramatically as you build up. In all of that effort, have you ever considered how to protect the site and the job better in a storm with regard to Crane Loading Platforms? We have a tip that can make securing the Loading Platforms the easiest part of the challenge.
Storm Safety Built In
Our Retractable Crane Loading Platforms have a design intention to stack so you can line up several decks in a column line. Then you can retract the ones not in use and reach any floor below. The unintended effect is that pulling the decks into the buildings gets them largely out of the wind.
The difference in wind surface from an extended deck to a retracted deck is dramatic.
In addition to the benefit of getting the decks out of the wind by simply retracting the deck, you can also fold down 2/3 of the sides. The fall protection panels lay down for shipping purposes. The side benefit here is that they can be laid down and secured for storms as well. If you do this, combined with it being retracted, the wind surface left out of the building is just over 4 sq ft. You can sleep well knowing that enough wind will not be able to hit the deck to dislodge it with it weighing 7500 lbs and being wedged into place with four shoring posts.
The panel folded down for shipping shows the low profile left behind.
Risk Management on High-Rise Construction and Storms
When I owned tower cranes, hearing high winds would keep me up at night as I would wonder if everyone had done everything right. From the engineers to the operator opening up the weathervane, to the technicians making sure the swing brake was open. I know that having a deck that would get down to the lowest profile possible would go a long way to lowering my concerns about the security of the job. It’s not just that we deliver the strongest retractable deck in North America, it’s that we also deliver the the safety along with it. It goes without saying that the cost savings of a fixed deck bears little relevance relative to the cost of an incident even in a storm. Reducing the profile of the deck also reduces the financial exposure of the whole company. It’s peace of mind worth having.
The winds will flow over as you sleep well.
Retractable Crane Loading Platforms Deliver More Unseen Safety
Our Retractable Crane Loading Platforms Deliver More Unseen Safety with great engineering. We choose safety over marketing. An example is in our rating. Our decks are rated at 11,000 lbs while extended. The retractables you can largely rent are commonly 5500 lbs to 5700 lbs while extended. That’s nearly down 50% on capacity. Clearly we could deliver and advertise a higher number when partially retracted. We don’t do it like others because we prefer the give one number for safety. Your employees shouldn’t be looking for the load chart. It’s good for 11,000 lbs at the center of the deck. This is a constant for safety over marketing.
We also can deliver fall arrest anchorages in the shores. This allows you to have a means of fall arrest everywhere the deck is installed. You won’t have to look for it.
If you have a long item being delivered, we have interior gates that can be left closed to protect the fall protection of the floor. The handrail can be effectively unbroken while a person is landing the load on the deck with the outer gates opened.
Our Handrails are fully enclosed. Outside of some gaps at the base to allow the folding down of the sides for transit, our handrails are fully enclosed. This stops the drop. That shackle pin that can get loose from the hand. That tool that might be pulled from the bags as your worker moves around… It should all drop in the containment of the crane loading platforms. If you don’t have end gates or the fall protection is the standard rail system, a bounce over the toe board would mean that an item will become a projectile for the people on the ground. We can help mitigate that with our handrails that also fold down for the winds. Or, they can carry the company name and colors when stood up for service.
If we can help you and your team with Crane Loading Platform safety, in common operations, or for the storm scenarios, we’ll look forward to it. We have many advantages including modular construction so they can ship up to 13.6 ‘ wide as normal shipment on any truck without permits needed. Reach out today by email, or by phone and we’ll get you the decks to manage your risk and deliver the best options on the market.
